This property consistently struggles with maintenance and hygiene, receiving criticism for pervasive odors, dirty carpets, and broken amenities. However, past experiences highlight that the rooms themselves are clean and the staff, specifically the driver of the shuttle and night receptionists, can be very accommodating and helpful.
We specifically requested an ADA-accessible room due to mobility needs. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect accommodations appropriate for a guest with a disability. Upon arrival, the carpet in the lobby and hallways was noticeably dirty and unkempt. The route to our room required walking a very long hallway, which was difficult and inconvenient for someone with mobility challenges. This did not feel like an appropriate placement for an ADA request. Once inside the room, we discovered that the toilet seat was broken. We reported the issue immediately after noticing it. However, during our two-night stay there was no attempt made to repair or replace it, which was extremely disappointing. There were also issues with basic amenities. The luggage carts were not usable—the only one we found had a flat tire—so we were forced to carry our luggage down the long hallway ourselves. Breakfast was available and the food was fair, but the overall condition and experience did not meet our expectations. Our train did not arrive until Saturday at approximately 2:00 AM, yet we were required to pay for Friday night even though we effectively only used the room for one night. When we expressed our disappointment about these issues, the staff did not seem particularly interested in addressing our concerns. While the staff members we interacted with were personally pleasant, the overall condition of the facility and the lack of responsiveness to the problems we reported left us very dissatisfied. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we would not choose to stay here again.
I had a really, really late arrival into Charlotte and several hotels would not honor a check-in after 2am. This hotel accommodated my late check-in and allowed me to check-out late for a small fee. The lobby is very comfortable and the the first floor rooms have rather high ceilings, giving it a touch of elegance. I left a very good tip for housekeeping and I recommend for business travelers who may arrive with unconventional hours.
I chose this hotel because I was traveling with my dog. I originally had another hotel booked, but due to traffic and already being exhausted from driving all day, it would’ve added another two hours to my trip. I pulled up the nearest La Quinta on my GPS and booked this location without checking reviews first — that was a big mistake. The photos online do not accurately represent this hotel at all. The rugs throughout the building are dingy, dirty, and torn in several places. As soon as you walk in, there is an overwhelming smell of pet urine mixed with a musty odor that is honestly nauseating. The smell does not improve once you get to your room. In my room, the bathroom door wouldn’t even close properly. There was visible mold around the window, and the room smelled so bad it was impossible to ignore. I spoke with other guests staying there that same night, and every single person said their room smelled awful as well. There was no escaping it. I would’ve checked out at this point and tried to get a refund, but a refund would take a few days to get and that wasn’t feasible for me. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff was wonderful and kind. Unfortunately, that alone doesn’t make up for the condition of the hotel. The check-in process also took much longer than any other hotel I’ve stayed at while road tripping, and they charge a $100 incidental fee. While I understand that it’s refundable, many “road trip” hotels — especially ones in far better condition than this — don’t charge that at all. Overall, this is hands down the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. I would not recommend it to anyone, even as a last-minute stop. This place needs a total overhaul.
Serious safety and sanitation issues — handled unprofessionally I am currently staying at this hotel and feel compelled to warn others due to multiple serious issues. I found what appears to be a bed bug in my room and documented it with photos. Instead of taking this seriously or arranging proper inspection, staff dismissed my concern and denied it without investigation. I requested basic compensation to wash and dry my clothes (a standard precaution when bed bugs are suspected). This was refused. Most concerning: a stranger was given a working key and entered my room by mistake. This is a major safety violation. I was told that they don't know how that happened even though you clearly need a key to enter in a hotel room. The front desk issued multiple keys that did not work, requiring repeated trips and delays Once I came to the front desk crying asking for a new room due to the bed bugs for the night, I had to wait outside for an hour due to them not issuing me a working key to get my belongings because my ID was in the room even though they've already verified my identity & my name is also on the room. I had to wait for the other person on the room to get here and show his ID just to get my belongings out of a bed bugs infested room. Not only did I have to wait due to them making 6 nonworking keys, I was given a 30 minute time frame to remove my things from the room & told that that would be the last time I can change my room as if I'm just requesting rooms for fun :/ When I raised these concerns, the front desk manager was dismissive and told me I was “welcome to leave” instead of taking accountability. Corporate was reportedly unreachable, and no meaningful resolution was offered. I am extremely disappointed by the lack of professionalism, accountability, and concern for guest safety. I would strongly advise caution when booking here. Beautiful hotel, staff needs better customer service training.
My experience really wasn’t as bad as some of these other recent reviews. I stayed for three nights originally unplanned. The staff were helpful and friendly, I did not have any problems. The room was clean and comfortable enough for the cost. The odor in parts of the hotel is not pleasant at all. It smells like something is being used trying to cover another smell, and it is extremely foul and overwhelmingly strong in the elevator and hallways. The condition of the hallways had me very nervous about what the inside of the room was going to look like. It is in a state of neglect and literally falling apart. Smells terrible and stains everywhere. It’s very apparent that it has been in a state of disarray for quite some time. The grounds and parking lot are very dirty and not taken care of. Bad first impression. Looks nothing like the pictures. I did not see any bugs in my room or anywhere else. The in room coffee maker was appreciated too. This is not what I would call a good place to stay by any means due to the level of neglect and horrible smell, but it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, and the price was extremely reasonable.
Check-in was quick and smooth. Staff was great. When I got to the room, there was an immediate and overwhelming stench that I believe was saturated in the walls because it never went away. Went to open the window to air it out and the window screen was ripped out. The bathroom light had a constant flicker that triggered my migraine headache. Besides those two things, the room was VERY clean so kudos to the maid service because they did a phenomenal job. Room was nice and quiet, didn't hear a peep while I was sleeping.
The combination of unreasonable hotel policies and rigid, small-minded staff has turned the simple act of checking in or out into something I genuinely dread. If a situation requires flexibility, common sense, or even a hint of creative problem-solving, the staff seem either unwilling or unable to rise to the occasion. Fine—you want to charge one of the highest deposits around, $100. But as a Diamond Rewards member, I can assure you the room will be in tip-top shape when I leave. The nightly rate is under $60, and I can't imagine anything in the room that would cost $100 to repair or replace. Budget hotels like this often overvalue their worn-out furnishings as if they’re brand-new. But let’s be honest: a 20-year-old scratched-up, wobbly headboard has no real value. First and foremost, your deposit policy is absurd. Then you staff your hotels with people who seem terrified of the world beyond their front desk—folks who overcompensate for their lack of awareness or confidence by clinging to rigid rules. There’s no room for nuance, no understanding of how the real world works outside their narrow bubble. And that helps no one—not the weary traveler, not the profit-focused innkeeper, and certainly not the employee stuck enforcing nonsense. It’s baffling that you don’t see how this approach costs you money. You’re so fixated on replacing a set of 150-thread-count sheets that you’d rather alienate guests than be welcoming, professional, rational—or dare I say, smart.
I have stayed at a LOT of LaQuinta over the last 15 years. This ranks at the bottom. The carpet was dirty. My feet were dirty after i took my shoes off. Outlets hanging out of wall. Mold/mildew and dirt. For being a non-smoking there was a LOT of cigarette burns, carpet, counter, bed spread all had burn marks. Nail sticking up from carpet strip. When we booked i read review and thought maybe just hurricane damage but no. This is years of failure to care for. Signs say cant leave car while traveling (fly away and come back) but there was a car with window busted out and all 4 tires flat. There were metal post sticking out from under the bed.drawers didnt open. Turn lights off and usb/plugs on desk didnt work. I would add photos but website wont accept them. The only positive was staff was friendly and room was quiet. Tredmill in gym didnt work.
It was close to the airport which was great. I tried to get shuttle, called the customer service line and the representative hung up on me twice before another rep gave me the number to the hotel which they sent someone to get me. The van she was driving leaked while it rained. She was nice though. Upon my arrival, the room I was placed in smelled (315) I had to be moved to 414 which was a little bit better. The carpet throughout the hotel smelled and was extremely dirty. I’ll never visit again.
I killed 2 of 5 roaches in my room. The key card had to be reset everyday after I checked in and the key did not work on the back or side door. Only one elevator went to all floors, the other only went to 2 floors. Only one ice machine worked on the main floor even though each floor has a machine. The room did look clean but smelled old. This hotel would just be for the only option or the last resort. Also there is a $100 deposit at check in, no cash is accepted. I will not stay here again nor recommend to others at this time.
