The Courtyard by Marriott Charlotte Lake Norman is currently undergoing significant renovations, leading to several persistent issues including staff shortages, cleanliness concerns, operational disruptions, and a lack of clear communication regarding the construction timeline. While some guests have praised the staff and amenities, a large number of recent reviews highlight serious maintenance problems, a generally unpleasant experience, and inadequate service.
As a lifetime platinum elite member I have been in all levels of Marriotts. This Courtyard is quite possibly the worst. One night felt like a week. Room deodorizer was so thick it burned my throat. The little balcony had two wasp nests and an occupied birds nest. The bed was soft/mushy, could not use the ice because the visible water filter was filthy, the pool was closed & the lobby a mess because of renovations. A very small flat screen was on the desk, a large flat screen wall hookup attached to the main wall with no TV. The shower had some mold in cracks, the toilet paper holder was broken, the toilet was absolutely miniature (the squatiest squatty potty even my wife struggled). There's more but I want to say the place should be shut down until renovations are completed. Our experience is that if a hotel is undergoing renovations it should be noted on the website, it was not. Marriott corp should investigate I'm not sure they'd want their brand attached to this hotel. I have pictures documenting all of this. No way to share the smell but I had to throw away the CPAP hose, mask & humidifier.
Nowhere in the their app do they tell you they have renovations ongoing. You learn when you show up and after you already booked and can’t cancel). I should’ve dug deeper and read all the reviews individually, but I trusted the courtyard by marriott name, I will not make that mistake again. Hallway both when I checked in and when I try to go to breakfast in the morning, smelled like pot (and a lot of it). Room had an incredibly strong smell of paint, i’m sure the staff of the hotel have grown nose blind to the smell, but for someone coming in from traveling, it’s incredibly present. Athough it clearly was painted recently, it was done very poorly, as there were multiple spots that still need repairing to go over again. The TV box and mount were still in the wall, but the TV had been replaced by a smaller unit set right on the desk, which made it impossible to work at the desk. Carpet in the room was clearly new but hadn’t been stretched properly, so it was loose and had “sticky” spots on it. The Internet was not working in my room (multiple devices) and when I asked about it, I was told by the front desk that it works just fine for them and try turning my computer on and off. No concern or even an offer to come check to see what’s going on with it. Dryer paint drips on the floor in the room and throughout the hotel. Shower was not clean. A section of it has not been caulked properly, which has allowed mold/mildew to grow. Thank goodness the in room AC did work well. Avoid this hotel until they’ve completed the renovations and get up to par.
I want to make a special mention on how absolutely outstanding the staff is here! During our stay, they were accommodating, professional, & a delight. It’s exciting to see all the new renovations they are doing to keep things updated! Thank you to the staff for your welcoming, “feel right at home” demeanor.
Marriott come get your sign and take it from this property!! Long time Titanium member. Checkin, not welcomed as such, had to remind the desk that I am Titanium and eligible for points or breakfast. Quizzical look and said my rate doesn’t cover breakfast. Told desk that I am eligible for either as a Titanium. Begrudgingly gave me breakfast for the next day. Room was not as advertised. No pullout sofa. Bed is the softest I have ever slept in and not in a good way. Here for an event and we all returned to hotel to grab a drink. No bartender, front desk person tried to help while people were trying to check in. If you have a food and beverage counter man it till closing at 10pm. Quit trying to cut corners. Wake up after a horrible nights sleep. Go out for breakfast and it is closed because employee didn’t show up. Stares from the desk when I asked why it isn’t open. Asked for the points since breakfast is not available. Property is understaffed and unworthy of the Marriott name. They have a long way to go if they want to keep the name.
Extremely run down! Dirty, worn out, rugs dingy and dirty. We had to stay for 3 nights for a wedding and not one time did the hotel clean our room or bring fresh towels. The “remodel” they are doing is subpar at best. It’s shocking to me Marriott Courtyard allows their name on this hotel. They need someone to be checking their hotels for the standards of their name. The elevator was inoperable and we had to carry heavy bags in the stairwell & that area was filthy as well. Our room was hot and humid when we arrived. Overall this hotel experience was dismal. Sharing so others know going in…the lobby is level 3 so it seems “ok” and maybe a little deceptive of the poor maintenance.
I’ve stayed in some gross places, and while this wasn’t the worst, it wasn’t great. The room was dirty with a used Band-Aid on the floor, the hallway stunk of construction, caulk and paint. I asked the front desk to request housekeeping to get the used Band-Aid Out of my room, and that didn’t happen. I’ll sleep elsewhere next time.
We booked this room because it said it had a heated indoor pool. It was ice cold and the water was not filled. The room was clean but really dated. Some of the outlets didn’t work. TV was old, could not stream anything. Took a long time when switching channels.
My family and I recently stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Huntersville. It’s rare these days to meet someone who genuinely cares about their work and the guests they interact with. I had to speak up and applaud the outstanding service we received from Jacoby Mackey. We had been traveling a long way in the rain and were feeling pretty beat down, but Jacoby completely turned our mood around. He naturally anticipated our needs and made our stay effortless. I’m writing this because I hope Marriott realizes what a star they have on their team. The next time we’re driving through town, we’ll be looking for him—and honestly, this employee should be handling guests at the Ritz-Carlton. ??
Settled into the room, left for a while came back to a chemical odor. Tried to tough it out but childnjad a severe asthma attack. Room changed to one with a non functioning television. Drinks at the bar were below substantial. Watched them mixed and define not worth the money. Bloody Mary, no celery, 1/2 shot of vodka.
Visited friends in Charlotte, NC. Stayed here. Hotel was clean and quiet. Basic rooms but nice. Surprised there was no complimentary breakfast offered. About $9 a person. Bin Evan's is right next door.
