The Hampton Inn Charlotte - University Place receives mixed reviews, primarily driven by cleanliness and maintenance concerns. While the location is a strong asset and staff are consistently praised for their friendliness, numerous guests report issues with dated rooms, soiled linens, stains, and outdated facilities. Recent reviews highlight urgent needs for renovations and improved housekeeping standards.
Absolutely horrible experience. The only bright spot was person at front desk. The room is in desperate need of renovation as you see from pics. Could've filled an album but chose three. The workout "center" is a closet. The person working the breakfast buffet was not professional. I accidentally had a mishap and attempted to clean it up. I wasnt making headway with napkins so I informed the attendant. She chastised me in front of the other guests. When I advised it was an honest mistake and she didn't need to speak to me in such a way she attempted to walk back her comments. She then slammed stuff around and talk under her breath. Worst experience at a Hilton property ever!
I stayed at the Hampton Inn Charlotte-University Place from May 8–10 while in Charlotte for my daughter’s graduation at UNC Charlotte. I want to be fair and say the staff I interacted with were nice and friendly. The front desk team was respectful and did try to help. However, the cleanliness and overall condition of the hotel were very disappointing, especially for a stay connected to such an important family event. As I was preparing for bed, I found black hair on the sheets and brown spots on the sheets, which made me question whether the bedding had been properly cleaned or inspected. The biggest concern was the mattress. The mattress had visible blood-like stains, which was extremely concerning and unacceptable. Another room I checked had similar issues with the bed. I was also told that many of the beds are stained, which was very troubling to hear as a guest. The room and property also appeared dated and in need of significant updating and cleaning. There were visible dried water stains on the wall, stains and marks throughout the room, stained bedding, and worn or poorly maintained areas around the property, including the elevator button area. The staff were polite, but clean sheets, clean towels, clean washcloths, clean bedding, and clean mattresses are basic expectations at any hotel. In my opinion, the sheets, towels, washcloths, bedding, and mattresses need to be replaced or professionally cleaned and inspected. The hotel also needs a serious refresh and stronger housekeeping standards. We came to Charlotte to celebrate my daughter’s graduation, and this was not the experience we expected. Based on my experience, I would not feel comfortable recommending this location until management addresses the cleanliness, maintenance, and bedding concerns.
If you are looking for a straightforward, no-frills stay that hits all the marks for convenience and value, this hotel is a solid choice. The check-in process was a breeze, handled by a genuinely friendly staff that welcomed us the moment we walked through the door. While the facility sticks to the basics, everything appears to be functional and well-maintained. The lounge is on the smaller side, but it’s perfectly adequate for a quick coffee or a brief moment to regroup before heading out. I also appreciated that despite being in a high-traffic area, there was a fair amount of parking available, which isn't always a guarantee. The location is really the star of the show. It’s a busy spot, but accessible and situated within a reasonable distance to the heart of the action. You are within easy reach of plenty of entertainment options, retail shops, and convenience stores, plus a wide variety of eateries just a few minutes away. Ultimately, this is a clean, safe facility offered at a very competitive price. If you’re looking for a bargain on a short stay without sacrificing safety or location, you’ll find exactly what you need here.
The hotel is in a very great location front desk, worker Miss Denise is Phenomenal very friendly outgoing go above and beyond hotel was clean , smell of fresh Room was clean bed made good. They had AC set on the right temperature. I have no complaints. I came in town to visit some friends. I will definitely be returning the next time. I’m in town.
I would like to publicly acknowledge Frenchy, who works nights and may not get recognition for her excellent customer service skills because everybody is sleeping LOL we had an issue with our room and she provided an easy and quick solution. Her commitment to helping guests is above par. Thank you to Frenchy!
I enjoyed myself. It was very comfortable and clean. They were very nice people I didn’t want for none everything you asked for they’ll bring it. It was good service very good service and I want to get them a five star. I want them to keep up the good work, peace, love, and happiness. God bless.
I recently stayed at this Hampton Inn while in town for business. The staff at this location are some of the best in the business. Every single staff member was kind, and willing to help at a moments notice. That was the highlight of my stay… The rooms at this property definitely are in need of a renovation. The carpet and overall room needs an upgrade… This property was in a great location for all of my needs.
Those commercials Hilton runs about being able to keep your young family together are complete garbage. I checked in on the app Friday and made sure both of my rooms were on the same floor and near each other. (318 and 326) We got here and I am now three floors away from my nephew that my sister trusted me with. Poor kid is all alone three floors down.
Not what we expected from a Hilton property. This Hampton Inn seemed...worn...tired. Upon entering the lobby we found the desk clerk was kind and attentive but, surprisingly, dressed in a hoodie and sweats. The elevator had a dilapidated appearance along with a mass of adhesive on the door left from when the Hampton sign had been removed. Don't lean against the door! Our room was clean but we found several annoyances not normally found in an HI. The heat/AC unit was very loud and rattled extremely louder when shutting down. This woke us up all thru the night. One of the wall lights was tilted around 45 degrees and the bathroom light was hanging partially down over the mirror on the left side. On top of that the bed also made loud noises every time you rolled over. The hot water only got warm in the tub and sink. The hair dryer had stuff in the intake grill which I just didnt want to get close enough to decipher. I/we are Honors members and I have stayed in plenty of Hilton hotels. This particular room at this particular hotel is one of the worst I've been in. Room 603.
For me this place was nice due to the staff. Rooms: the bed was lumpy, squeaked, and felt like it was time to switch out the mattress. The a/c was acting weird and was not staying on the temperature that I set. The coffee maker was ok. I would say that the carpet, walls, and windows need a little bit of TLC. Service: The service members of this location were awesome. Even when they were frustrated or having a bad day as soon as a customer walked up they put on a friendly face and helped without letting the customer feel the negative. Plus they were friendly to talk with and felt welcoming. Location: For me this place was in the right place and made it comfortable to get to all locations that I needed to get to. Overall I would say it's a good place except the price, but that is just me.
