The Hyatt Place Charlotte/Arrowood has received mixed reviews, with cleanliness and service being inconsistent. A persistent elevator outage is a major ongoing issue, leading to inconvenient and frustrating guest experiences, particularly during peak travel times. While some guests appreciate the room size and location, several have expressed concerns about the overall property maintenance and lack of responsiveness from staff.
I’ve stayed at a lot of Hyatt properties over the years, which is why this experience felt less like a Hyatt and more like an unexpected fitness retreat. We arrived around 2:00 AM after a long day of travel. At that hour, you’re not looking for luxury. You’re looking for a bed, a pillow, and the shortest possible path to both. Instead, I was greeted with: “Sorry, the elevators don’t work.” Wait… what? Not “The elevators are temporarily out of service, but we’ve arranged assistance.” Not “We’re offering a discount for the inconvenience.” Not “We’ve partnered with a nearby hotel if you’d prefer.” Just a simple “Sorry.” So there I was, dragging luggage through stairwells that looked like they had lost a disagreement with a vacuum cleaner several months ago. To be fair, the room itself was fine. Once I finally arrived, it was clean enough, comfortable enough, and I slept well. But getting there felt like an obstacle course. At 2:00 AM, you’re too tired to argue. You’re too tired to negotiate. You’re too tired to start hotel-shopping again. So I simply picked up my luggage, started climbing stairs, and repeated positive affirmations to myself: “Exercise is healthy.” “Exercise is healthy.” “Exercise is healthy.” By the third flight, I was basically training for a mountain expedition. The disappointing part wasn’t that the elevators were broken. Things break. The disappointing part was the complete lack of ownership of the situation. If your elevators are out of service, especially at a hotel, there should be some effort to make guests feel cared for. A discount. Extra assistance. A cleaner stairwell. Something. This just didn’t feel like the Hyatt standard I’ve come to expect. The room saved the experience from being a complete disaster, but if you’re advertising elevators, I generally expect them to participate in the hotel experience.
The staff was nice and friendly but that was pretty much the only positive thing about the hotel. The elevator was broken the entire time we were there. We booked the reservation around February and was informed 2 days before the reservation check in that the elevator was broken down. We were told we could cancel our reservation without penalty which is insane considering we booked the hotel for a week and it was also a holiday weekend ontop of the Coke 600 going on. The hotel offered “complimentary water bottle” for the eleven being broken down. We stayed on the 5th floor the whole stay. Ontop of the elevator, our AC unit was leaking, we informed the front desk and they sent up someone from housekeeping and all they did was put towels under the unit to prevent the water from getting all over the floor. The unit was leaking from the moment we got into the room. During the stay we tried to call the front desk for more towels and no one answered the phone just kept ringing, turns out the computer systems went down and we had to wait in the lobby for 30 minutes just to ask for more towels.
Zero Stars If I Could - Absolutely Disgusting and Trapped Do not stay here. We were unfortunately stuck at this property because the entire city of Charlotte was completely sold out due to a holiday weekend and a massive national football tournament. Had there been literally any other vacancy in the city, we would have walked out immediately. ?The conditions here are completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a Hyatt brand: ?Filthy Common Areas: The lack of care is obvious the moment you walk in. The lobby was dirty, and even the AC vents in the main areas were caked in dust and grime. ?Poor Room Conditions: The room itself was in terrible shape and visibly unclean. It felt run-down, unbothered, and entirely unhygienic. ?Broken Amenities & No Flexibility: The elevator was completely broken during our stay. When we realized how bad the property was and asked to cancel, management refused to give us any options or flexibility, knowing we were trapped due to the city-wide sellout. ?They are completely dropping the ball on basic maintenance and cleanliness, taking advantage of a busy weekend because they know desperate travelers have nowhere else to go. Save yourself the headache and the gross experience—look elsewhere.
Arrived here for a wedding and tried to check in was told that they are not accepting check ins until at least 345 because their elevator is broken. If you look through the other reviews , it appears their elevator has been broken for months so this either shouldn’t still be an issue or should be something they’ve learned to adapt to by now. Additionally, this is information which should be disclosed during booking. I Cancelled our reservation. Not sure how them not being able to hire someone to fix an elevator has anything to do with their ability to adequately check guests in and accommodate reservations which they allowed to be made without disclosing this information but nevertheless not a buisness i care to support.
The rooms are clean & spacious. Love the fact it had a couch also. The fact the elevator is broken under maintenance & we are placed on the fifth floor is quite ridiculous. Like ma'am for $168 a room & $50 in taxes is ridiculous & to offer a bottle of water that you need to run down the five flights to get is even more risky like you couldnt just have it in our rooms or offer when you told us where to find steps at. Now if I would have booked the rooms I would have asked. Better yet how come we want informed. Are these TVs not smart tvs I cannot connect my phone to it? Like really this is 2026 at least let me cast to tv. I actually think this is worse than the elevator for the price paid. Do better for the price this hotel is charging . At least leave a mint on pillow not making wal to
The person who checked us in was very rude and made us feel as though we were inconveniencing her by being there (4 rooms for 2 nights). We checked in on a Monday night, the lady working the desk the following night was much more friendly. My room was awful, it had a very strong bleach odor despite the room's questionable cleanliness- the floors were sticky throughout the room, red liquid residue was on the light switch, residue/drips down the wall, the filter in the wall fin unit was so dirty that I removed it so the unit would function better to help hopefully dissipate the bleach smell, the bathroom door frame was dirty and even the ironing board cover was dirty/stained. The peep hole in my room door was falling out of the door, there were unfinished wall repairs/painting, the phone in the room had no cords going to it at all, the mattress pad was bunched up under the sheets which is how I discovered that it was a twin mattress pad on a king size bed. One of the elevators wasn't working which I've seen multiple reviews stating the same thing so how long it's been out, who knows. Very disappointing for a Hyatt hotel. Even right as you walk in, the lobby couches right in front of you are covered with stains.
The room was very spacious. The was soom need of repairs, elevator, lobby, etc. but the room was very nice. Especially important if you were staying more than one night
It's a shame how Hyatt Places have gone downhill over the years. This particular hotel is in a great spot for anyone driving along I-77. Super convenient as we needed a place to stay from our OH to FL drive. However, that's about the only positive to it. There was a security guard in the lobby all evening, and he'd escort people to their rooms because it seems a bit unsafe. A lot of shady characters here! Kudos to Hyatt for at least having a security guard, but the fact that they needed one tells you something about the area/property. I just miss the Hyatt Places of old that felt clean, new, and had above average breakfasts. That's certainly not the case here. Hotel smells like marijuana throughout! One more positive--The ladies at the front desk were kind and helpful upon check-in. And thank you for the globalist bag with waters and snacks.
There were multiple teenage football teams here so it was very hectic. The kids were so loud and some of them walked down to lobby in their socks. My room was fine but the ac could use a clean. There was mold and dust on it. The shower floor was not leveled so the water would stay.
Overall would not stay here again. Although the stuff was very friendly, the rest of the hotel was not great. Upon check in I was charged an additional $100 for my service dog, which was not disclosed when I had called ahead about it. The room itself was clean but the couch and mattress had stains on them. There were a few bugs in the bathroom and near the mini fridge. The key card wouldn’t work half of the time for the outside doors. The location is great if you have a car, it’s about 10 minutes away from the main city!
