While the Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark boasts a prime location and high-quality service from certain staff members, the hotel is currently undergoing significant renovations that conflict with its luxury pricing. Recent guests report receiving dirty, damaged rooms and facing a lack of transparency regarding fee structures and early departures.
This was one of the worst experience I’ve had staying at a Marriott. I travel often for work and have stayed at a lot of different properties and after this recent experience, I don’t think I’ll be staying with this location again. When I booked with the hotel, I was not aware that it was under going renovations and certain amenities were going to be limited or unavailable. If I had known that and also known they wouldn’t be flexible with early departures then I would’ve stayed at a different Marriott in Charlotte. I paid extra for lounge access and it was extremely disappointing, barely offered anything, and was picked over every time I visited it. There was supposed to be a coffee shop in the hotel and I couldn’t find it nor even know if it’s still there. The trash cans outside the front of the hotel were overflowing the entire time. The fan in the bathroom was constantly running and couldn’t be turned off. One of the lights over the bed was constantly flickering if turned on (basically had to leave it turned off). There were often people parked in the handicap spots without handicap signs which resulted in me having to park in other areas and walk further distances. Lastly, I was charged a full night for checking out early even though that was never communicated to me when I mentioned possibly checking out early the days prior and upon actual checkout. Because I travel a lot for work, I often have to adjust my stays at the various Marriott’s and I’ve never been charged for leaving early. I was told by one of the Marriott employees when I called to discuss the extra charges that the person that checked me out should have disclosed this to me upon checkout and given me the option to stay and they never mentioned anything about it. If I had known I would’ve been charged extra for leaving 1 day early then I would’ve just stayed the extra night. The lack of transparency is extremely upsetting. Overall I am extremely disappointed in the customer I received.
I wouldn’t have made a reservation here had they advised it was under significant remodeling. There were loud noises of construction when we arrived. No restaurant or bar as a result. This is a nice location but since they don’t tell you when you’re booking about things like significant construction, couldn’t stay here ever again. As a bonus our room comes with a view of the construction equipment and dumpster! The upholstery is crumbling and falling off the chair in our room. Big disappointment.
Nice hotel in a quite and distinct neighborhood, I’ve been one night only but I enjoyed my stay. The room was clean, well decorated and comfortable (the chair polster/skin was quite worn out but didn’t bother me). Floor was quite cold and no slippers provided with is a bit of a shame in this hotel class. There are also renovation works hence part of the hotel was not accessible, but is well promising! Remarkable the fitness room and an indoor pool is available if you like. The staff was very kind and helpful, providing good recommendations for the surroundings. Should I come back in the area I likely stay here again!
The appearance is very nice, gym is good, and in my experience front desk staff was helpful and friendly. However the walls are less than paper thin. I’ve never stayed at a hotel with such a lack of sound barrier between rooms. The person staying next to me was throwing up all night and was not even that loud but it sounded as though it was in my hotel room. Then their alarm went off probably 15 times through the entire 6-7 am hour and it wasn’t just muffled like sometimes how you can tell it’s in a different room but still hear it, it sounded as though it was literally in my room and I had to question if it actually was at first. I could also hear every single time they zipped their suitcase, set a glass on the counter, and every word of their conversation as well with speaking at a normal level. Just FYI as well —they are doing renovations, restaurant is not open but you can order food off a menu (it is pretty pricey ex. Oatmeal $16), you have to pay for WiFi, and there is no refrigerator in the rooms.
I've honestly never stayed at a hotel where i felt more robbed of my money than this one. First of all, the hotel was dirty, smelled like gas, everything was being remodeled, the restaurant was closed, and wifi ISNT free on top of all of this. Just outside my room in the hallways there was a leak and THE CEILING WAS COMING DOWN! Inside the room they were dirty and old and falling apart. I can't begin to describe how gross and bad this hotel was. I had 2 rooms booked, we decided the hotel was just too bad to stay in so we talked to a man at the front desk TWICE named Griffin or Griffith, he assured my mother we would not be charged for the last night of our stay for both rooms. Low and behold i wake up to an invoice email with both rooms having the last night we didn't stay. Still actively trying to get this situation rectified. I will never again stay at a renaissance and especially this one.
I only stay at marriot hotels and this hotel is one of the reasons why. This was a great hotel from check in to check out! The customer service was amazing and I definitely recommend the breakfast ? Looks like they will have some upgrades soon! The only thing I wish different is the length of the shower curtains. They are too short for the tubs??. Other than that the water pressure and the shower heads were amazing. Rainfall showerhead! Will stay again for sure!
Great Hotel! We enjoyed our stay they were very helpful specially letting us check out late. It was very clean and a very relaxing and peaceful time. 5 Stars
Room appearance was nice although the couch was stained and the office chair wobbled and very worn like others have stated. Poor choice for durability. Shower saved the rating! Rain shower head with separate sprayer. Both working to full potential which is rare at a hotel. I travel for work and seek out the Marriott hotels with lounges. Lounge was okay. It seems that they only stock the fridge when pretty much empty because on Friday there was no juice for breakfast. It depends on who is the attendant if there will be real half-and-half for your coffee in the morning. One attendant told me there is only the little cups when the day prior there was a carafe. There seems to be only one attendant who is actually doing all of the restocking of supplies. She was pleasant and worked hard.
Just left this hotel at 11pm to go ANYWHERE else in Charlotte. Either the walls are paper thin or the people staying beside me were scream conversationalist. I called the front desk twice and no one answered. So I just left. Maybe a decent hotel if you don’t have loud neighbors. Also I was not thanked for loyalty, not told where the lounge was, neither of these things are super important to me just worth mentioning because the service seemed pretty sub standard for what I’m used to at Renaissance properties. Only positive was the restaurant staff.
I stayed for one night and booked the room through my credit card weeks in advance. I arrive with my partner, and we check in around 6:30pm. At the front desk, they asked me if I wanted an accessible room, which I thought was weird since that is not the room I booked, and neither one of us presented as if we needed accessibility. I replied that no, I wanted and booked a regular room. They then gave me the keys, and we went up to the room. I had booked a room with a king bed. It was a nice weekend getaway, and of course, you want to sleep in a bigger bed. When we got to the room, we saw that there were two double beds. I call down to the desk and tell them that we received a double room instead of a king room and that I had booked a king. They said they didn't have any other rooms, and this was all they had unless I wanted an accessible room. So now I get why the front desk guy mentioned it, but he mentioned it with zero context. He didn't explain the situation at all. I said 1. I booked this weeks ago, if this was not available why was it an option to be booked and 2. Why wasn't any of this disclosed to me while I was at the front desk to check in? They said they were sorry and that they would add extra points to my stay to compensate for the oversight. I said okay that fine. We check out and nothing about the points were mention and I wasn't even given a receipt nor was emailed one later. The next week I call because I still have not received my receipt and I did not see the points added to my account. The email they has for me was incorrect even though my marriot account email was my correct email and was attached to the reservation. They emailed me a receipt and then they say they will speak with a manager about my points and have them call me and I leave them with my number. I never hear from anyone from this hotel. I call again the next week and they say the same thing and take my number. Still no call from anyone from this hotel. The 3rd week, I call and speak to a guy who says he IS a manager and he will look into this and literally says "I promise I will call you back tomorrow" because I told him that they kept saying they would call and never did and guess what?! No call and this is 3 weeks later. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have had and the worst I have had from a hotel. Still no call and still no points, and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone I know cause they do not seem to have their ish together. There are plenty of hotels in Charlotte; you do not have to stay here.
