City Express by Marriott Charlotte South End consistently receives high praise for its cleanliness, modern renovations, and friendly, helpful staff. While some guests have noted minor operational issues like occasional AC problems or billing discrepancies, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, particularly for travelers seeking a convenient and budget-conscious accommodation near Charlotte’s South End.
I stayed here as a solo female on a Wednesday night when my flight got messed up. This place fit exactly what I needed, it was clean and I felt safe. The staff was great starting with my shuttle driver to the front desk. The breakfast in the morning even had gluten free muffin options and other allergen friendly accommodations. If my flight got disrupted in charlotte again in the future this is where I’d stay.
Can’t say enough good things about it our experience. The staff were consistently nice and caring. When we arrived we called the shuttle service for a pickup from the airport and the driver was friendly. He asked us if we needed suggestions for our stay and about our trip. And he was also ready with restaurant recommendations. It was a great start to the trip. When we got to the hotel you could feel the camaraderie between the staff members and a desire to make our stay pleasant. We were expecting heavy rains and they offered to drive us to a restaurant nearby if needed. When we checked out we had a long wait for our ride and a team member came into the lounge and saw we were waiting. He asked us about our stay and if he could get us anything: water, coffee, etc. The people really make this place. It’s recently renovated as well so it’s clean. Rooms are large and comfy beds.
I think if you are looking for a hotel on a budget this is not a bad place at all. There were minor issues with the ac not working in one room but since I stayed for a short period of time. I didn't bother to make any changes. The breakfast was disappointing. It was from 6am-9am but what they had was limited. The good thing is that if you are okay with eating out, there are other options within the area. And if you don't mind driving, there are nice options within the city area. Location is a bit awkward. Turning in and out can be a challenge depending which way you go. But again, this place was a great place to sleep for the night. It was clean, had basic amenities, free parking, and generally a good place to stay for a short period!
This hotel was exceptionally clean and quiet. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and welcoming. I love the room and will definitely return again and refer others. I felt very safe here.
If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to stay in a hotel that’s trying harder than any of us did in high school, look no further than City Express by Marriott Charlotte South End. This place is so clean it made me question my own life choices. I walked into my room and immediately felt judged by the spotless microwave—like, wow, okay, I get it, you’re perfect. - The blackout curtains work so well I briefly forgot what year it was. - The bed was so comfortable I considered writing it into my will. - The flat?screen TV had more channels than I have emotional stability. - Everything was so tidy I started apologizing to the furniture. They served a complimentary Latin?inspired empanada breakfast, which is honestly the kind of plot twist I didn’t know I needed. I came for a hotel stay and left spiritually connected to a pastry. The gym is huge—so big it made me feel guilty just walking past it. I didn’t actually use it, but I did admire it from a safe, non?athletic distance. Right in Charlotte’s South End, close to dining, shopping, and attractions. Basically, if you throw a rock, you’ll hit something fun (please don’t actually throw rocks). Cleanliness score: 5.0 My own home’s cleanliness score after staying here: emotionally damaged. The staff is so friendly and helpful I started wondering if they were trying to adopt me. If you want a hotel that’s modern, spotless, friendly, and serves empanadas like they’re running for office, City Express by Marriott Charlotte South End is your place. I came in a traveler; I left a believer.
It is very clean and the staff at the front desk had excellent customer service skills and was very pleasant to work with. Good coffee and breakfast included and when I stayed, the person handling refreshing the food and checking on customers was delightful. Definitely five stars for the price. Highly recommend
This is a great “budget” Marriott property so it allowed me to get my Bonvoy credits for about 100$ vs the 400$ night at Renaissance which was sold out the night I needed it. The reviews I’ve seen are misleading and some people don’t understand what a “budget friendly” hotel is…. This new concept is exceptional and I’m a seasoned business traveler who understands you ge t what you pay for … this exceeds that concept. The renovations are quite nice and modern. The breakfast area is adequate -atleast they offer it and you don’t even get that option at other Marriott properties ! I loved the espresso machine in the lobby -it’s a major perk! Henry was at the front desk that night when I checked in and was super helpful and friendly!!!! Michelle helped me the next day and was also quite nice- the billing glitch with internet is honest in that I think their new system is glitching- I noticed it prior to checking out and they refunded it right then- it was only 5.00 so I don’t see how some people are saying it was 50.00! Parking was FREE and easy! Well lit area- it’s off South blvd so yeh it’s a little sketch and anyone that knows CLT knows it is what it is…. You can’t beat this value and I plan on using this new Marriott concept in future travels to save the extra money knowing I get my Bonvoy nights credit, free breakfast and espresso, free parking, free bottle water at checkin, what’s not to like ???? Even if a few things were to go wrong (which they didn’t for me) I would be fine with it !!!!
I had a fantastic stay at City Express by Marriott in Charlotte, NC. The room was clean, modern, and very comfortable. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the location was super convenient—close to the airport, highways, and restaurants and nice breweries. Perfect Location. Great value for the price. I’ll definitely stay here again next time I’m in Charlotte!
Great hotel. Very clean and staff was very helpful. Good location. Near by airport and uptown. Nice and clean room.
As a Marriott Titanium member enhanced WiFi is specifically listed as a benefit. After check out I noticed a $50 dollar a night charge for enhanced WiFi. I called them and they stated they would refund it, after a few weeks nothing happened so I called again to follow up and again I was told it would be refunded. Nothing happened so I disputed the enhanced WiFi charge and the hotel continues to fight the dispute to this day, disgusting practices.
